Summary
Do you want to win this painting after Einar Baldvin? The only thing you have to do is leave a comment under this passion.
Einar Baldvin is a 25 year old artist and filmmaker who just recently finished his bachelor degree in animation from CalArts. He's gained quite a lot of attention on dvoted.net for his animated short films and just recently won a Special Mention award at last year's Ljósvakaljóð
A short interview with the painter of Masato's 30th Birthday.
We started by asking Einar Baldvin about his work and where his inspiration comes from.
"Well, to begin with, I really like cats. You could say my work is usually about cats in one way or another. I think I like cats because they like me, but also because they are the closest things to snakes, without actually being snakes which would be nasty."
"I make films and I draw. Actually I draw until it becomes a film. Animation is a lot like that. I paint too, which is similar to drawing except with paint, which tends to be a little wilder than say a pen, which is usually tame."
"I love Mickey Mouse. Mickey Mouse is a big inspiration. I try to put him into everything I do."
Currently, I am working on a boxing film. I decided to do that based on the fact that old animation is sometimes referred to as "rubber-hose" animation. When I punch thing for a good twenty minutes, my arms start feeling like rubber. If I can get that across in my film, it should be a good film, I think, just like those old cartoons."
"I hope my films, drawings and paintings will put a big smile on everyone's face who happens to come by them. If they don't, please let me know and I will try to improve them."
What inspired you to paint “Masato's 30th Birthday”?
I was living with a wonderful man from Japan named Masato. He was one of the more delightful people I’ve ever met. All day he would paint flower patterns, honing his skill to become an artist for the ages. He felt that his time was running out, because he had just turned 27. He told me: "In Japan, if you are not professional artist when you are thirty it is all over you are lucky you are only 24 because you STILL HAVE TIME"

Francis Bacon goes to the circus after having looked at a painting by Paul Klee and Manet's flute boy. Nice work.
